Amazon Prime Day for Photographers

Amazon Prime Day, July 16th starting 3pm EST

What is Prime Day?

Prime Day is essentially a cyber Monday type of sale, exclusive to Amazon Prime members.  Nearly half of American households are members of Amazon prime.  If interested in participating in the sales, you can join Amazon prime by clicking the banner above.

How good are the Prime Day sales?

I find Amazon Prime to be a great value if you take advantage of many of its benefits.  For me, some of the biggest benefits are Prime Video, streaming Prime Music, Whole Foods discounts and “free” two day shipping.   Prime Video is a netflix-like service.  Even without any of the additional benefits, I’d consider subscribing just for Prime Video.

That said, the sale prices on Prime Day are probably not enough of a reason to become a Prime Member.  But if you were on the fence about joining, Prime Day may be enough to put you over the edge.

What types of discounts can photographers expect?

Don’t expect 50% off the Sony A7iii.   Most of the deals will be on older products.  Deals have already been announced for European markets.  There are some lenses receiving good discounts.  Memory cards and other accessories can have some discounts.  If you were considering some slightly older camera bodies, like a Sony A6000 or A7, you may see discounts on those bodies.

What are the best deals for photographers?

I’ll try to update this page through the day.

For now, for the enthusiast photographers still educating themselves, you can find some very good educational materials on Kindle Unlimited.   As part of prime day, get a 3 month subscription to Kindle Unlimited for just $0.99.  This is a no brainer, for less than a dollar read lots of very good photography materials and other books.
