Sony Alpha Savings 2019
Just as they did in 2018, Sony will be doing a trade-in event for 2018. It will launch on February 3, 2019.
If it’s like prior years, you can expect some significant savings on the A7/A9 bodies when you trade in a camera or lens. You get the value of the trade-in plus a significant bonus. For example, in 2018, you received $500 off the Sony A9, in addition to the trade in value. The trade ins go through the major camera stores.
It usually doesn’t make sense to trade in anything too expensive — you’ll get better value selling used items yourself. But it can make sense to trade in a cheaper item just to get the bonus savings.
During the Christmas season, the Sony A9, A7riii and A7ii all saw very significant price reductions. The prices are currently back to “regular pricing,” but you will likely get a second chance at the Christmas-type pricing with the trade-in offers coming. I wouldn’t expect the offers to apply to the new Sony A6400. The best selling Sony A7iii may or may not see a discount after a year on the market.
